Local Tech Help
A Local Alternative to Geek Squad in Fort Wayne
Looking for a local alternative to Geek Squad around Fort Wayne? I'm Tyler Derouin. Before I started Digital Linchpin, I spent seven years at Best Buy and Geek Squad — so I know the work, and I know what it's like on the customer's side of the counter. Now I do the same repairs and setups on my own: in your home or remotely, the same person every time. Call or text (260) 668-2867.
I spent seven years at Best Buy and Geek Squad
So this isn't an outsider taking shots at the competition — I came up in it. Seven years at Best Buy and Geek Squad, in roles that ran from in-store computer repair and sales to home theater and PC “double agent” — Geek Squad's name for the tech who comes to your home. Honestly, it was a great company to work for, and the training and the standards there are genuinely excellent. I carried the best of what I learned into Digital Linchpin.
But I also saw where a big company runs into its limits serving local people one at a time. The standards are consistent; the people carrying them out are human. One visit, you get someone who goes above and beyond and explains things in a way that finally clicks. The next visit, you don't — and you rarely get the same person twice. When it's your home and your technology, that inconsistency is the whole problem.
That's what Digital Linchpin is built to fix. With me, you get an actual appointment time, not a four-to-eight-hour window to wait through. With me, you text or call my personal cell. And with me, you're working with a one-person local business based in Grabill — someone who cares how this turns out for you.
A local person who actually cares how it turns out — and answers when you call.
What's different about a local option
Both get your tech working. Here's what actually changes when the person who answers the phone is the same person who shows up at your door.

The same things you'd call Geek Squad for
- Computer repair & virus removal
- New computer setup & data transfer
- Slow PC tuneups
- WiFi & home networking
- TV mounting & home theater setup
- Smart home devices
- Printers & peripherals
- Data backup & recovery
The home-theater side is where I started — TV mounting, soundbars, and receivers were half my in-home work back then. See Computer Repair, WiFi & Networking, Home Theater, and Smart Home for the details.
How it works
1. Tell me what's going on. Call or text (260) 668-2867, or use the contact form. Describe what it's doing in plain words — you don't need the technical terms for it.
2. I'll talk it through with you — free. Sometimes the fix is simple enough to sort out over the phone at no charge. Otherwise I'll come to your home or connect remotely, whichever is faster for what you're dealing with.
3. You get honest options and a price. I'll tell you what's wrong, what it takes to fix, and what it'll cost before I start. If there's a cheaper path, or you don't really need me for it, I'll say so.
4. I fix it, and I explain it. You keep your device the whole time, and I leave you understanding what was done — not just hoping it holds.

Common questions
Did you really work for Geek Squad?
Yes — seven years at Best Buy and Geek Squad, in roles from in-store computer repair and sales to home theater and in-home repair visits. Digital Linchpin is me doing that same work on my own, as one local person instead of a national chain.
Are you cheaper than Geek Squad?
Often, but I'll be straight with you: it depends on the job. My rates are $100/hr in-home and $50/hr remote — you pay for the help you actually need, quoted before I start, with nothing to sign up for. The consultation is free, so you can find out what something will cost without committing to anything.
Do you come to my house?
Yes. In-home is the default — you don't have to box anything up or drive it anywhere. If you're within 45 miles of Grabill there's no travel charge, which covers Fort Wayne, Auburn, Angola, New Haven, and most of the towns in between. Some things I can also handle remotely for less.
Do I have to leave my computer with you or ship it somewhere?
No. Your device stays with you. I work on it right there in your home, or remotely with your okay while you watch. Nothing gets sent to a bench in another city.
Do you do the same things Geek Squad does?
The everyday things people call them for, yes: computer repair and virus removal, new-device setup and data transfer, WiFi and networking, TV mounting and home theater, smart home devices, printers, and backups. Home theater is actually where I started. For anything I'm not the right fit for, I'll tell you and point you in a better direction.
What if it can't be fixed?
I'll tell you plainly rather than run up hours on a lost cause. If a machine isn't worth saving, I'll help you figure out a good replacement and move your files and settings over so the new one feels like home.
Just the help you need, quoted upfront — nothing to sign up for. Free consultation, so call or text (260) 668-2867 and tell me what's going on. If it's the kind of thing you'd have taken to Geek Squad, it's probably something I can handle — at your home or remotely.
